Freedom Service Dogs of America (FSD) transforms lives by partnering people with custom-trained service dogs. The money we raised last year for this organization helped fund a new match: Chris and his service dog Reef. We were so lucky to have Chris, Reef, and Nadine from Freedom Service Dogs join us at this year's event. Chris is a US Army Gulf War veteran and a retired police officer who experiences PTSD and limitations of mobility due to injuries sustained while serving in Iraq. Listen to Chris's story here. “I turned into someone I could not recognize.” That’s how U.S. Army veteran Chris describes himself and the effects of PTSD brought on by serving in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the Gulf War, followed by a 23-year career as a police officer. But thanks to his FSD service dog, Reef, Chris is now venturing out into the world and doing things he couldn’t have imagined a year ago, including taking his family—and his loyal service dog—to Disney World.
